چکیده

Methanol, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, and propylene conversion were examined in a laboratory flow reactor over three base-metal containing alumina-supported palladium (Pd) catalysts in addition to Pd on y-alumina catalyst. The base metals were cerium, barium, and a combination of the two. Experiments were performed to determine the effect of air to fuel ratio on lightoff temperatures of various feed components for the base-metal catalysts as compared to Pd on y-alumina. For a vehicle operating at fuel-rich or stoichiomemc conditions, the cerium containing catalyst gave the best overall performance among those tested. However, at lean conditions, all the catalysts had similar performance.

Carbon-Supported Pd and PdFe Alloy Catalysts for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Cathodes

Direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) are electrochemical devices that efficiently produce electricity and are characterized by a large flexibility for portable applications and high energy density. Methanol crossover is one of the main obstacles for DMFC commercialization, forcing the search for highly electro-active and methanol tolerant cathodes. In the present work, carbon-supported Pd and PdF...

Kinetic study of ethanol and methanol electro-oxidation on Pd-vulcan XC-72R/Cu electrocatalyst in alkaline media

Abstract In this study , palladium nano-particles were electro deposited galvano - statically on carbon black powder (Vulcan XC -72R). The catalytic activity for electro - oxidation of ethanol and methanol in alkaline media were studied by cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry techniques. The results indicated that the electro-oxidation of ethanol and methanol strongly depends o...

Palladium nanoparticles supported on carbon black powder as an effective anodic catalyst for application in a direct glucose alkaline fuel cell

Palladium nanoparticles supported on carbon black powder (Vulcan XC-72) nanocomposite (Pd/C) are synthesized as the catalyst for the anodic oxidation of glucose for use in a direct glucose alkaline fuel cell (DGAFC). Characterization of the catalyst is carried out using physical and electrochemical methods. It is observed that Palladium nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed onto the carbon blac...

Activity of platinum/carbon and palladium/carbon catalysts promoted by Ni2 P in direct ethanol fuel cells.

Ethanol is an alternative fuel for direct alcohol fuel cells, in which the electrode materials are commonly based on Pt or Pd. Owing to the excellent promotion effect of Ni2 P that was found in methanol oxidation, we extended the catalyst system of Pt or Pd modified by Ni2 P in direct ethanol fuel cells. The Ni2 P-promoted catalysts were compared to commercial catalysts as well as to reference ...

Methanol-Tolerant Platinum-Palladium Catalyst Supported on Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Nanofiber for High Concentration Direct Methanol Fuel Cells

Pt-Pd catalyst supported on nitrogen-doped carbon nanofiber (N-CNF) was prepared and evaluated as a cathode electrode of the direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). The N-CNF, which was directly synthesized by the catalytic chemical vapor deposition from acetonitrile at 640 °C, was verified as having a change of electrochemical surface properties such as oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activities and...
